The Australian Public Service (APS) is generally bigger, more transferable both physically and between departments than either local councils or the states. You role will also have “national” relevance so you will be contributing directly (in some way) to “running” the country.

In most to the APS departments you have some flexibility to move around as you are less exposed then working in a small team and if you need to move sideways to avoid a manager that just plainly “sucks” then you can.
